About Us
Thomas Coram Centre and Nursery School, Camden’s only maintained nursery, provides high quality Early Years education in the heart of historic Bloomsbury. Led by a specialist head teacher and a team of qualified teachers and experienced Early Years practitioners, we have consistently been rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted since 2012.
Our site, and its immediate surroundings, has been a special place for children since the foundation of the Foundling Hospital in 1739. Today the children in our care benefit from not only two airy and attractive wings of purpose-built classrooms, but also a large, well-resourced playground and landscaped garden.
We offer places for children aged two to five, and are open 8.30am-5.30pm, 44 weeks a year. Our intake reflects the diverse community we serve. Inclusion is at the forefront of our philosophy: we positively welcome children of all abilities, including those with ‘Special Education Needs and Disabilities’.
Play is central to our approach to learning and development. ‘A child’s greatest achievements,’ observed Russian psychologist Lev Vygotsky, ‘are possible in play.’ In partnership with our parents, we provide a positive environment in which, with the encouragement and guidance of staff, each child can have fun and flourish.
