School Life
We are open 8.30am – 5.30pm, 44 weeks a year. Our ‘core day’ is between 9.30am and 3.30pm. Our ‘extended day’ provision is between 8.30am and 5.30pm.
A prompt arrival each day is essential and expected. At 9.30am children and parents are greeted at reception and head to the ‘Toddlers’ (2-year-olds) or ‘Kinder’ (3- and 4-year-olds) wings. Our ‘soft’ opening gives parents the opportunity to see their child each morning within the school setting for the first ten minutes of the school day. For much of the ‘core’ day (9.40am to 3.15pm), each child is free to move at will between the indoor and outdoor learning environments within each wing. Our purpose-built classrooms host a range of focus activities such as painting, modelling, role-play, mark-making, reading and numeracy games. The extensive playground and garden spaces outside provide learning opportunities through sand and water play, mud ‘kitchen’, climbing, running etc.
A mid-morning (10.30am) and mid-afternoon healthy snack (2.30pm) is provided in each wing. Lunch for ‘Toddlers’ takes place at 11.45am, after which the children are given the option to take a nap. Lunch for ‘Kinder’ children takes place at 12.30pm, after which the children resume their play. Further enrichment and variety is provided by timetabled shared activities such as music-making in the studio or whole-school events such as ‘World Book Day’. The ‘core’ day typically concludes with a ‘key group’ meeting with ‘key’ persons.
Children are encouraged to pursue their own learning based on their own ideas and interests, supported and guided by our highly experienced educators. Through careful observation and judicious interventions, staff seek to stimulate learning with appropriate challenges for each child. Experiences and interactions are recorded each day in profile books which are used to plan new learning and development goals.
